'how 2 help - A guide to worthy causes in Cape Town' While researching the Cape Town guide, the author personally visited and investigated approximately 150 projects (i.e. Non-Government Organisations and Community-based organisations, incorporating skills-based development projects, early child development programmes, HIV/AIDS support projects, shelters, support structures, schools etc.), analysing financial statements and strategic objectives where possible. Each one touched her heart, but through a careful selection process, over 50 established, well-run and sustainable projects have been included in this first edition of the h2h series. The book provides the reader with their contact details, a background story, and a needs list. The objective of the book is to increase awareness of the incredible work that is happening right on our doorstep , and to encourage more personal involvement in these projects. Apart from the obvious benefits of financial input and support, the author highlights how discarded articles, and a little of our time, expertise, knowledge and love, can have a tremendously positive impact on the lives of those with so very little. Just an hour a week of reading with an illiterate learner can change his or her life and prospects forever . 'You don't have to be rich to give!' (Bathabile). In a nutshell, in creating the h2h guide the author is trying to make it easier for people who do not have the know-how or time to identify worthy causes, to get involved and make a difference. The intention is to update the h2h guide on a biannual basis, incorporating 50 to 60 new projects each time. This model will hopefully be replicated in other major city centres. 100% of the royalities earned from the sale of the h2h book will be reinvested into the projects included in the guide.
