"In reality, by making a small but meaningful contribution towards social upliftment, we learn so much more than we teach and we receive so much more than we give. It is a truly enriching experience."

'how 2 help - A guide to worthy causes in Cape Town'
seeks to highlight the needs and stories behind the many wonderful, easily-accessible development projects and worthy initiatives run on a volunteer basis by passionate South Africans. These pioneering programmes provide underprivileged and previously disadvantaged communities and individuals with shelter, protection, nutrition, education, employment, and, most importantly, the opportunity to rise above their difficult circumstances and realize their dreams.
While researching the Cape Town guide, the author personally visited and investigated approximately 150 projects (i.e. Non-Government Organisations and Community-based organisations, incorporating skills-based development projects, early child development programmes, HIV/AIDS support projects, shelters, support structures, schools etc.), analysing financial statements and strategic objectives where possible. Each one touched her heart, but through a careful selection process, over 50 established, well-run and sustainable projects have been included in this first edition of the h2h series. The book provides the reader with their contact details, a background story, and a needs list.
The objective of the book is to increase awareness of the incredible work that is happening right on our doorstep , and to encourage more personal involvement in these projects. Apart from the obvious benefits of financial input and support, the author highlights how discarded articles, and a little of our time, expertise, knowledge and love, can have a tremendously positive impact on the lives of those with so very little. Just an hour a week of reading with an illiterate learner can change his or her life and prospects forever . 'You don't have to be rich to give!' (Bathabile).
In a nutshell, in creating the h2h guide the author is trying to make it easier for people who do not have the know-how or time to identify worthy causes, to get involved and make a difference.
The intention is to update the h2h guide on a biannual basis, incorporating 50 to 60 new projects each time. This model will hopefully be replicated in other major city centres. 100% of the royalities earned from the sale of the h2h book will be reinvested into the projects included in the guide.
